Robert is Lonely Coat’s most senior artist, and he has been drawing and working with wood since the early 1970s. He was born in PNG and studied art there before moving to Australia in 1978. His woodcarvings are powerful, traditional totemic pieces that refer to his tribal culture, whereas his drawings tend to be more ‘modern’ in their subject matter and execution, and make use of colour in unconventional ways. Robert is local to the Sutherland Shire in Sydney.
